Green Lantern Ryan Reynolds Taika Waititi DeadpoolDeadpool actor Ryan Reynolds recently opened up about why he pokes so much fun at the Green Lantern film he starred in years ago.

Many A-list stars aren’t afraid of voicing their honest thoughts on a comic book movie they were a part of in the past. George Clooney, for example, hasn’t been afraid to admit that Batman & Robin wasn’t a good movie. Ryan Reynolds is another star who has appeared in a few bad comic book movies over the years like Green Lantern and X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Reynolds eventually made up for it with his two well-received and successful Deadpool films, but that hasn’t stopped the actor from making fun of himself.

Most notably, Deadpool 2‘s post-credits scene saw Wade Wilson go back in time to shoot Ryan Reynolds after reading the Green Lantern script. Reynolds recently opened up to CinemaBlend about why he keeps making jokes about Green Lantern:

“I think it’s more about just laughing at myself, not laughing at other people, necessarily, that are involved in a project. But laughing at myself and my own contribution to that failure or however you want to characterize it. It was just something that I thought was worth examining, you know? And in examining it, you take that energy that is – typically, maybe it’s hurtful or maybe it’s something that’s dragging you down – and you end up creating a sort of mental Judo with it. You’re using its energy against it and creating something positive out of it.”

Here is the synopsis for Green Lantern:

Sworn to preserve intergalactic order, the Green Lantern Corps has existed for centuries. Its newest recruit, Hal Jordan, is the first human to join the ranks. The Green Lanterns have little regard for humans, who have thus far been unable to harness the powers of the ring each member wears. But Jordan, a gifted and cocky test pilot, may be the corps’ only hope when a new enemy called Parallax threatens the universal balance of power.

Directed by Martin Campbell, Green Lantern stars Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong, Taika Waititi, Angela Bassett, and Tim Robbins.

Green Lantern is available on Blu-ray, DVD, digital, and HBO Max. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for all the latest news on the upcoming Green Lantern Corps series and be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for future video content!
